Genesis 28:15
“And I am with you and will watch over you where ever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised.”
Jacob is being exiled from the land of promise. He is being driven out due to his own actions. He deceives his father in to blessing him with his brother’s blessings. To keep him safe from his own brother, Esau, Jacob’s mother requests that he leaves this place. Although his own actions cause him to be exiled from this land, God reminds him that he is entitled to this very land from which is he being driven from. Yahweh says He will never leave him and that He will bring him back. God will keep His promise. This is same promise made to Abraham and Isaac.
God is a promise keeper. He is faithful to His word. Our actions do not deviate or cancel out what His plans are. His plan is that all people of the world be blessed through Jacob’s offspring. That was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. God’s words, “And I am with you and will watch over you where ever you go” were a life-changing promise to Jacob as he went from a life of deception and selfishness to a faithful servant who would lead his family to trust in the Lord. This life-changing promise remains true for us as well through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.
Our sinful nature keeps out of God’s will and promise, but God is faithful to bring us back to the place of promise for through Salvation. Seek the Lord and know that He is with you and will watch over you where ever you go!
Psalm 91:1
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”
